Main Article Content
Abstract
Challenge. Comprehensive actions of health care specialists are necessary in order to preserve the psychological well-being of citizens and social groups in emergency situations. The reliable indicators diagnosing mental states can facilitate the coordination of care for people survived an emergency situation.
The article purpose is to systematize and illustrate the indicators of victims’ mental distress in emergency situations according to the WHO reference documents (Post traumatic stress disorder, Complex post traumatic stress disorder, Acute stress reaction).
The results. A brief review of stress disorder indicators according to the International Classification of Diseases -11 and Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental disorders, fifth edition is presented. It is noted that decision-making regarding the optimal ways of assistance is based on a detailed analysis of pathological processes unfolding because of an emergency situation. A checklist to fill indicators revealing psychological and mental problems are offered to use easier the materials of classification systems in diagnostic work with emergency victims. The proposed checklist reflects the disorders specifically associated with stress, chapter 06 of the International Classification of Diseases -11, which are consistent with the diagnostic criteria existing in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental disorders, fifth edition for disorders associated with trauma or stress: post-traumatic stress disorder, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, acute stress reactions.
Prospects for further research: to illustrate indicators of emergency victims’ mental distress according to the groups of distress-related disorders, mood disorders, anxiety-related disorders, or fear-related disorders.
