Development of youth information patriotism: media educational practices

Abstract

Background and purpose. In the conditions of hybrid, ideological war, the role of patriotism as a potential resource for preserving the national identity of Ukrainians increases. The topic of youth patriotism is revealed within the cyber-socialization theory. Based on the literature analysis, two directions that are involved in the topic have been identified. These are: the influence of media and Internet on the consciousness, the formation of youth worldview positions, their socialization, as well as the use of media resources and new technologies in fostering patriotism among youth.


Findings. Based on the results of source analysis, a new concept of "information patriotism" was proposed and a media education model of its development was created. In a psychological context, information patriotism of a personality is an actualization of sensory - emotional, a mentally-cognitive, motivationally-active qualitative components that are implemented in the media information space. Information patriotism as a new type of patriotism, aimed at preserving, protecting and promoting Ukrainian values in the information space.


A preliminary empirical study of the patriotism of high school pupils and students was conducted. The following tendency was revealed: "information" patriotism is inferior to "traditional" patriotism by all indicators.


Practical applications of the results. The proposed model of information patriotism development determines the main directions of media educational practices. These are: patriot activity in social networks as the distribution of Ukrainian media content, protection from hostile propaganda in social networks, media creativity as the creation of original patriotic media content that positions Ukrainian values. The prospect of further research is to monitor the information patriotism of young people, to develop and test innovative media education methods.
