Abstract

Relevance. Socio-psychological support of IDPs is an urgent need of Ukrainian society in the context of ongoing hostilities in the east of the country, complicated by the global crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic. Current areas of support are discussed in the field of promoting mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), strengthening personal autonomy, including the ability to organize their own lives and be a subject of creating their own life. Art therapy methods are an important area of socio-psychological support for IDPs. Despite the widespread use of art therapy methods in the practice of social and psychological support of IDPs in Ukraine, there is a lack of a general analysis of the achievements.

The purpose of the article is to determine the features of the use of art therapy in the socio-psychological support of IDPs in Ukraine.

Methods and methodology. A content analysis of 30 publications by domestic authors on the use of art therapy in the socio-psychological support of IDPs in Ukraine based on four criteria: age of clients, model of support, type of art therapy, art therapy intervention criteria of effectiveness.

Results. It is shown that 56.7% of articles are devoted to the use of art therapy in the socio-psychological support of children. 36.7% of the analyzed articles describe the psychosocial model of support (without involving the aspect of corporality). 73% of the analyzed sources report the use of drawing methods. Among the effects of art therapy 50% of the authors highlight catharsis, 40% – the improvement of emotional self-regulation.

Perspectives for further research are related to the popularization of the array of successful cases of practical use of art therapy in the socio-psychological support of IDPs accumulated by practical psychologists. It is also necessary to increase the amount of evidence-based research on the use of art therapy in the socio-psychological support of IDPs.
